The second story of the chimney in the front room had already been removed (in the 60's judging by the artifacts found in the shaft), we built temporary walls to support the ceiling joists and took it out the rest of the way, brick by brick, piled it in the backyard for use in sidewalks.

We loaded new lumber in and began to install it in the termite-eaten areas - we are starting with the front of the house and moving backwards.  In order to fix the front wall and then sheath it with plywood, we removed all the doors, windows, trim and siding.

Lath

20 Ton bottle jacks helped place these supports under the front porch overhang.  The columns (which were under the house) had been removed.  The roof had to be jacked about 3" to be level.

A long day with 10 volunteers from North Carolina and the backyard resurfaced.  Poison Ivy followed for the next three weeks.

The remaining lath and plaster and trim were removed - it's a house of sticks.

616 Caffin Avenue, Lower 9th Ward, New Orleans

616 Caffin on January 18, 2012 - a New Orleans style camelback from around 1900.  A shed addition had been added to the rear, it was removed and replaced around 2009, work had been stopped since then.

Interior views - lath and trim still in place, much of the plaster had been removed.

View of the neighborhood from the second story window.
